This Pre-Lenten festival includes pageants,
parades, dancing, food and much more! Equivalent to Mardi Gras, the streets of
downtown Cozumel shut down to celebrate the mix of cultures. A must see
activity is the Comparsas Ball which includes a dance competition. This week is
very busy so make reservations early!

El Cedral - April 28-May 3
Anniversary of the first Holy Catholic Mass
commemorates the day of the Holy Cross (May 3). You will find food, games and
dancing. Additionally, there is a cattle exhibit, a rodeo, bull fights, cock fights and an
agricultural show case of local goods.

Dia de Independencias (Independence Day) - September 15-16
Come celebrate Mexico’s day of independence
from Spain! Both religious and popular traditions are exhibited throughout the
downtown of Cozumel. Join the Mayor of Cozumel at City Hall for the traditional
“grito” (cry) for independence on the 15th at 11pm followed by fireworks. Also,
stick around for the parade that takes place the next day. This is one party
that cannot be missed. Viva Mexico!!
Fiesta de San Miguel Arcangel - September 21-29
This is Cozumel’s most important religious
holiday that honors the patron Saint of the island, San Miguel (San Miguel is the name of the main town too!). The festivities
begin with a procession on the 21st from the Church of San Miguel to downtown
Cozumel. Throughout the week, you will find food and a craft fair in the
downtown Cozumel to commemorate the patron saint.
Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) - November 1-2
During these two days people come to pay their
respects to the dead. The town of Cozumel honors the deceased by creating
elaborate altars made of artwork, food, flowers and candles which can be found
throughout the town’s local shops, restaurants and hotels.
Noche Buena (Christmas) - 1 week leading up to December 24
Come to Cozumel for a Christmas getaway and
you will find the town decorated in lights and celebrating the spirit of
Christmas. Shop among the local shops for Christmas where you will find
children caroling. Join in one of the many posadas (parties) leading up to the
day of Christmas. A Christmas in Cozumel is one you will never forget!
